Jerry has kept Melinda on her toes for the last 8 years. He has been a BBEVS clinic pet for as long as she has been working for us and he keeps everybody entertained with his joyful singing. His vocabulary consists of variations of only a few words such as 'Jerry Jerry', 'Pretty Boy', 'Pretty Jerry' and Jerry Boy'. He loves his mirror, Nikki, fresh green millet and his Harrison's pellets.
Licorice is a female Red Tailed Black Cockatoo that arrived on the scene in 2010. She is our resident blood donor but prefers to spend most of her time sweet talking everyone for treats. She loves sunflower seeds and would do almost anything for just one more! Typical of the black cockatoos she is relatively quiet but highly destructive!
Petey owns our vet Deborah and just like other asiatics has a very strong personality! He is sure to let the other feathered clinic pets know he is the boss, even Licorice who is 7 times his size! He has managed to convince Deb to give him treats for a variety of tricks including playing basketball, soccer and picking up a set of weights. Pete loves food, especially capsicum and...himself!
Our lovely clinic piggies were donated to us by the Gold Coast Cavy Sanctuary and provide moral support to many of our sick, hospitalised guinea pig patients. Flash particularly loves to take young pigs under his wing! Both Flash and Belle have been desexed so are able to provide social interaction for a variety of pig patients. Our pigs are also treated with monthly revolution for mites, fleas and intestinal worms. You may see Flash or Belle in consultations as demonstrators for vitamin C tablet taking as they love their Oxbow Vitamin C tablets. They would do anything for food and certainly let our staff know if their hay rack or vegetable bowl is running low!
Diesel, the Black-headed python came to BBEVS in 2009 with many medical problems. Her situation was life-threatening and with many months of treatment, including major surgery she is finally on the road to good health. She is the most placid, laid back member of our crew and her lovely nature has convinced even the most terrified people that snakes are awesome! Diesel loves her water bath and hitching a ride on members of staff from time to time.
Our newest clinic pet is a Central Bearded Dragon who came to us in 2011. This little guy has settled in wonderfully and his favourite basking area is at the top of his hanging vine arrangement.
Our rough-knob-tailed gecko has grown considerably since his arrival in 2010 and has now decided his enclosure is his own. He loves wood roaches and doesn't like to share!
